EVENTS

For a tiny island, Sark certainly isn't short of interesting and fun events to keep visitors occupied and amused, with no fewer than four major occasions each year which are known throughout the Channel Isles and beyond for their entertainment value.

First, is a challenging triathlon held each Spring, which attracts serious competitors from far and wide and is becoming a major fixture on the sporting calendar despite its recent addition to the island’'sschedule. If combining a relaxing holiday with a serious test of fitness appeals (or even if you prefer merely watching others do the hard work) then a visit to Sark in early April to attend or compete is a must!

Then there is a truly quirky sporting event, but one you’ll be talking about for a long time to come. Forget athletics or Formula 1 – instead revel in the spectacle that is Sark's very own Sheep Racing Championship! Held in the glorious summer sunshine, spectators enjoy a menu of music, food, drink, children’s activities, a Miss Sark Princess pageant, book stalls, good-natured betting, charity tombola and, of course, the spectacular sight of thoroughbred racing sheep with teddy bears on their backs hurtling around a race course to the delighted cheers of enthralled crowds. You have to see it to believe it, so why not come and see it?!

The last big event is Sark Summer Festival. A new addition to the Sark events calendar, this is a three day, family friendly festival, with Folk, Rhythm, Blues, Reggae and Country music, local Craft stalls, food and drink.

In addition to these great showpieces, Sark has plenty of smaller annual attractions to keep visitors smiling, including art and history exhibitions (particularly those which showcase and celebrate Sark’s folklore and culture), summer street and courtyard markets, flower and wildlife exhibitions, heritage festivals, fetes, events revolving around Sark's 'Dark Sky’'status and an enviable array of carol services, festive gatherings and Christmas fairs throughout the holiday season!
